The Creek Church – Part 1

Imagine putting a puzzle together without a picture of the image you are trying to assemble. Imagine putting a puzzle together with the wrong picture. Both situations are very tough. The same can be said about the church. If the church does not know who she is, it is hard for the people to come together in unity for the stated purpose.

The Creek Church was birthed in my heart a little over 3 years ago. To me, the purpose and the goal of the church is clear and easy to follow. I have been working on this for years. However, in an attempt to explain the vision of The Creek Church, I have created a series of posts that I hope will remind you of our purpose, challenge you with the purpose, and move you to pursue all that God has for you.

The process for making disciples at The Creek is: We love people from the bleachers to the field.

The love of God is the basis for our process. I cannot define for you the whole process until we first understand the love of God demonstrated through the life of Christ. The bible is full of verses declaring the love of God for his people. The book of I John summarizes the love we have and the love we give:

I John 4:9-11 In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him. In this is love not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.

The reason we as believers love others is because of the love we have first in Christ. This loves compels us to love others and follow the example of Christ. Jesus was moved with compassion for people who did not have someone to teach them. The love God has for us is unconditional and real. He will never love us anyone more than he does right now.

I love being around people. I can be exhausted, but if you were to tell me 5, 10 or 20 people were coming over to my house to hang out I would be jacked up. I love people. Before we get going fully into the process to make disciples, I have a question – Do you love people?

The love we are talking about is not dependent upon the car we drive, the house we have, the debt we accumulated or the color of our skin. The love of Christ has been given so that it can be given. This is the foundation for our process of loving people from the bleachers to the field.

The love of Christ is the “picture” we have to “assembling” the pieces that make up The Creek Church. Without this picture we cannot have a church or a process.
